Easy New Born Hat And Mittens Knitting Pattern

Easy to knit matching hat and mittens worked on two needles.

Size:
Hat measures 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter; length 5 inches (13 cm) from rim to crown.

Materials:
Size 4 mm (5 US) needles
DK weight yarn (MC cream, CC pink). Less than 50 grams (1.75 ounces) used.

Gauge:
21.5 sts= 4 inches (10 cm)

K1, P1 Rib
Row 1:
*k1, p1; rep from *
Rep this row.

Instructions
Hat
Starting at brim, with CC pink CO 64 sts and work in K1, p1 until brim measures 1 inch (3 cm) from beg. Change to MC cream and work in St st until work measures 4 inches (10.5 cm) from beg. End with WS row completed.
Shape Top Of Hat
Dec 8 sts evenly across- 56 sts
Work even 3 rows.
Next row: *k2tog, k4; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2tog - 46 sts
Next row: purl
Next row: k2tog across - 23 sts
Next row: Dec 4 sts evenly across - 19 sts
Next row: Dec 6 sts evenly across - 13 sts
Next row:purl
Cut yarn, leaving a long length. With tapestry needle, thread through rem sts and pull tightly to close top of hat. Seams sides.
For the optional bow decoration, make a length of crochet chain with an F-5 (4 mm) hook.

Mittens
With CC pink CO 28 sts and work in K1, p1 until work measures 1 inch (3 cm) from beg. Change to MC cream and work in St st for 14 rows.
Shaping
Next row: (k2tog, k11) twice, k2tog - 25 sts
Next row: purl
Next row: k2tog, k10, k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog - 22 sts
Next row: purl
Next row: (k2tog, k8) twice, k2tog - 19 sts
Next row: purl
BO. Cut yarn, leaving a long length of yarn for sewing side seam.
