Slip Stitch Felted Bookmark Knitting PatternDesigned by Barbara Breiter A great project to experience felting and to perhaps try a slip stitch pattern for the first time. I knit this bookmark with a small amount of bulky wool and size 15 US needles. Gauge is not important. Be sure to use a yarn that will felt such as 100% wool. You'll need two colors. The angled ends are cut after the bookmark is felted. Prefelt Size: 3.5 inches wide x 8 inches longFelted Size: 2.5 inches wide x 7 inches long Instructions: Color A is the dark color in this pattern but feel free to reverse it. On the RS, slip the stitches with the yarn in back; on the WS, slip the stitches with the yarn in front. CO 26 sts. Row 1 (RS): With B, k1, *sl1, k2; rep from *, end k1 Rows 2: With B, k1, *p2, sl1; rep from *, end k1 Row 3: With A, k1, *k1, sl1, (k2, sl1) 3 times, k3, (sl1, k2) 3 times, sl1; rep from *, end k1 Row 4: With A, k1, *sl1 (p2, sl1) 3 times, p3, (sl1, p2) 3 times, sl1, p1; rep from *, end k1 Row 5: With B, k1, *k2, (sl1, k2) 3 times, sl1, k1, sl1, (k2, sl1) 3 times, k1; rep from *, end k1 Row 6: With B, k1, *p1, (sl1, p2) 3 times, sl1, p1, sl1, (p2, sl1) 3 times, p2; rep from *, end k1 Rows 7 and 8: With A, rep Rows 1 and 2 Rows 9 and 10: With B, rep Rows 3 and 4 Rows 11 and 12: With A, rep Rows 5 and 6 BO. Felt To felt, throw it in the washing machine with a pair of jeans or old canvas tennis shoes. Do not use towels as the lint can embed in the project. Use hot water and a small amount of detergent. If you have a zippered lingerie bag, place the bookmark in the bag as it's small and you can find it in the washer easier. Check after 3 minutes and continue the wash cycle if needed, checking every 2 minutes. When felted, rinse in cool water, shape, and dry flat. Cut the bookmark at an angle, following the lines of the secondary color. It will not unravel. Starch, using any method desired. ©Barbara Breiter.
