American Girl Stocking Hat With Pom Pom Knitting Pattern

American Girl Hat

Materials:

Size 4.0 mm needles (size 6 U.S.)
4 ply worsted weight yarn - 28 grams or about one ounce

Instructions:

Cast on 50 stitches.

Ribbing:
Knit 1 stitch, Purl 1 stitch, across.
Repeat this until piece measures 2 cm (1 inch)

Stockinette Stitch:
Knit 1 row, purl 1 row, for 4 cm (1½ inches)

Top Of Hat Shaping:
Row 1: Knit 4 sts, K2 sts together, place ring marker on needle. Knit 4 sts, K2 sts together, place another ring marker on needle, repeat this across row. You will have 8 decreased stitches. Knit last 2 stitches. (42 stitches)
Row 2: Purl across row. (42 stitches)
Row 3: Knit 3 sts, K2 sts together, slip ring to needle. Repeat this across row. Knit last 2 sts. (34 stitches)
Row 4: Purl each stitch across row. (34 stitches)
Row 5: Knit 2 sts, K2 sts together, slip ring to needle. Repeat this across row. Knit last 2 stitches.
Row 6: Purl each stitch across row. (26 stitches)
Row 7: Knit 1 st, K2 sts together, slip ring to needle. Repeat this across row. Knit last 2 stitches. (18 stitches)
Row 8: Purl each stitch across row. (18 stitches)
Row 9: K2 sts together, remove ring marker, knit next 2 sts together, remove next ring marker, do this across row. (9 stitches)

Cut yarn leaving 38 cm (15 inches) to thread through remaining (9 stitches). Gather tight, sew back of hat together, weave in ends.

Make a Pom-Pom, sew to top of hat.
