Gingerbread Man Christmas Ornament Or Pin Knitting Pattern

Cute gingerbread man knits up in about an hour in garter stitch. Use it as a hanging Christmas ornament or a pin.

Size:
About 4" tall

Materials:
Size 9 US (5.5 mm) needles
Brown and white worsted weight yarn
Stitch holder
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
18 sts=4" in garter st (not vital)

Instructions
Head
With brown, CO 3 sts, leaving a long tail to make hanging loop.
K 1 row.
K1, M1, k1, M1, k1-5 sts
K 2 rows.
K1, M1, k3, M1, k1-7 sts
K 3 rows.
SSK, k3, k2tog-5 sts
K 1 row.
SSK, k1, k2tog-3 sts
Neck
K 2 rows.
Arms And Body
Using the Cable Cast On, CO 8 sts beg next 2 rows-19 sts
K 3 rows.
BO 5 sts beg next 2 rows-9 sts
K 3 rows.
K1, M1, k7, M1, k1-11 sts
K 2 rows.
SSK, k7, k2tog-9 sts
Legs
K4, place rem sts on holder.
K 2 rows.
K2tog, k1, M1, k1
K 1 row.
K2tog, k1, M1, k1
K 1 row.
BO.
Place 5 sts from holder back on needle.
Attach yarn and BO 1 st, k to end.
K 2 rows.
K1, M1, k1, k2tog
K 1 row.
K1, M1, k1, k2tog
K 1 row.
BO.

Finishing
With white, make two French Knots for eyes and 3 down center of body for buttons. Use a running stitch to make mouth.
Weave in ends on WS. Attach pin or complete hanging loop.
If desired, stiffen using a commercial stiffening product or starch.
