Christmas Stocking Knitting Pattern

Christmas Stocking Knitting Pattern

This easy, basic Christmas Stocking knits up fast with bulky weight yarn.

Add your own embellishments such as pins or ribbons to make it your own. Fabric paint or felt letters can be used to add a name.

Size:
Circumference 9"

Gauge:
3.5 sts=1" in St st

Materials:
Size 10 US (6 mm) double pointed needles
Bulky weight white yarn (A) - approx 15 grams
Bulky weight green yarn (B) - approx 50 grams

Instructions:
With A, CO 32 sts. Divide over 3 needles (11/10/11 sts on each needle). Make sure sts aren't twisted. Join. Mark beg of round.
Work k2, p2 rib 2".
Change to B. Work in St st 11" from beg or desired length.

Heel Flap K 11 sts from Needle 1 and 5 sts from Needle 2 on one needle. Place rem 16 sts from Needle 2 on Needle 3 for instep.
Flap is worked in rows.
Row 1: sl 1, purl across rem sts
Row 2: *sl 1, k1; rep from *
Rep Rows 1 and 2 6 more times, then rep Row 1.

Turn Heel
Change to A.
Row 1: k9, k2tog, k1, turn
Row 2: sl 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3: sl 1, k4, k2tog, k1, turn
Row 4: sl 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 5: sl 1, k6, k2tog, k1, turn
Row 6: sl 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn - 10 sts

Gusset
Change to B.
K across 10 heel sts on Needle 1. With Needle 2, pick up 9 sts along side of heel flap. With Needle 3, k 16 sts on needle for instep. With Needle 4, pick up 9 sts along other side of heel flap. K 5 sts from Needle 1 on to Needle 4. Slip rem 5 sts from Needle 1 on to Needle 2. Needle 2 is now Needle 1. (14/16/14 sts on 3 needles). Mark beg of round.

Foot
Rnd 1:
Needle 1:
k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle 2: k
Needle 3: k1, ssk, k to end
Rnd 2: k
Rep these 2 rnds until you have 32 total sts (8/16/8) Work even until foot is 6" or desired length.

Toe
Change to A.
Rnd 1:
Needle 1
: k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle 2: k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Needle 3: k1, ssk, k to end
Rnd 2: k
Rep these 2 rnds until you have 12 total sts.
K sts from Needle 1 to Needle 3.
Graft using kitchener stitch, BO and seam, or use 3 needle bind off to close toe.

Make a loop for hanging. You can use ribbon, knit I-Cord, braided yarn, or crochet a chain.
