This adorable coat for little girls knits up fast with bulky yarn on big needles. It has a subtle A-line shape.

Musique from Crystal Palace Yarns
4 (4, 5) balls Color #9134-Picnic
45% acrylic/40% wool/15% cotton
100 grams/130 yards
Size 11 US (8 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Six 1" buttons

Over even number of stitches
Rows 1 and 2: *k1, p1; rep from *
Rows 3 and 4: *p1, k1; rep from *

Over odd number of stitches
Rows 1 and 2: *k1, p1; rep from *, end k1
Rows 3 and 4: *p1, k1; rep from *, end p1

Back
CO 43 (45, 48) sts. Work in Moss Stitch for 4 rows.
Change to St st.
Work 2 rows and dec 1 st each end on last row.
Work 40 rows in St st and dec 1 st each end on last row -39 (41, 44) sts.
Work even until piece measures 14½ (16½, 18)" from beg.
Shape Armholes
BO 1 st beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end every other row 4 (3, 3) times - 29 (33, 36) sts.
Work even until armhole measures 6 (6½, 6½)".
Shape Shoulders
BO 3 sts beg next 4 rows (BO 3 sts beg next 2 rows then 4 sts beg next 2 rows, BO 4 sts beg next 4 rows) - 17 (19, 20) sts.
BO rem sts for back of neck.

Front (Make 2)
CO 21 (22, 24) sts. Work in Moss Stitch for 4 rows.
Change to St st.
Work 2 rows and dec 1 st at armhole edge on last row.
Work 40 rows in St st and dec 1 st at armhole edge on last row - 19 (20, 22) sts.
Work even until piece measures 14½ (16½, 18)" from beg.
Shape Armhole
At armhole edge, BO 1 st.
At armhole edge, dec 1 st every other row 4 (3, 3) times - 14 (16,18) sts.
Shape Neck
When armhole measures 3 (3½, 3½)", BO 4 (5, 5) sts at neck edge - 10 (11, 13) sts.
At neck edge, dec 1 st every other row 4 (4, 5) times - 6 (7, 8) sts.
Work even until armhole measures same as Back.
Shape shoulders same as Back.

Sleeves
CO 35 (37, 39) sts. Work in Moss Stitch for 4 rows.
Change to St st.
Dec 1 st each end every 10th row 3 times - 29 (31, 33) sts.
Work even until sleeve measures 10½ (11½, 12½)" from beg.
BO 1 st beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end every row 5 (5, 6) times, then every other row 6 (7, 7) times. BO rem 5 sts.

Finishing
Sew shoulder seams.
Collar
Pick up 16 (18, 18) sts from right neck, 16 (18, 20) sts from back of neck, 16 (18, 18) sts from left neck. Work in Moss Stitch for 4 rows. BO.
Left Button Band(Girl's)
Pick up 60 (68, 72) sts from front edge and collar.
Work in Moss Stitch for 4 rows. BO.
Right Buttonhole Band
Pick up 60 (68, 72) sts from front edge and collar.
Row 1: Work in Moss Stitch.
Row 2: Keeping to pat, work 3 sts, BO 3 sts, work 8 (9, 10) sts, BO 3 sts, work 7 (9, 10) sts, BO 3 sts, work 8 (9, 10) sts, BO 3 sts, work 7 (9, 10) sts, BO 3 sts, work 8 (10, 10) sts, BO 3 sts, work 1 st.
Row 3: Cont in Moss Stitch, keeping to pat. At point where sts are BO, CO 3 sts (turn, CO 3 sts using cable cast on, turn and cont).
Row 4: Work in Moss Stitch.

Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve seams. Sew side seams. Sew buttons on left band. Optional: Sew or pin an imitation flower at top of right front band.
