Ribbed Hat For Babies And Children Knitting Pattern

An easy and quick to knit hat in k2, p2 ribbing, the pattern stitch and the yarn used combine to yield a very stretchy hat. As a result, the hat will fit babies from about 6 months to children to about 6 years. Just fold up the brim to adjust the length.

Gauge:
17 sts=4" in k2, p2 ribbing with two strands held together

Materials:
Size 11 US (8 mm) 16" circular and double points or size needed to obtain gauge

1 ball #9812 Violets
1 ball #209 Periwinkle
80% merino wool/20% nylon
77 yards/50 grams

Size:
Fits babies and children from 6 months to about 6 years.

Instructions:

Hat is knit with one strand of each color held together throughout.

CO 48 sts on circular needle. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark beg of round.

Knit k2, p2 ribbing 5½" as follows:
Rnd 1: *k2, p2; rep from *
Rep this rnd.

Crown Decrease
Change to double points when sts no longer fit on circular needle.

Rnd 1: *k2, p2tog; rep from * - 36 sts
Rnd 2: *k2, p1; rep from *
Rnds 3 & 4: Rep Rnd 2
Rnd 5: *k2tog, p1; rep from * - 24 sts
Rnd 6: *k1, p1; rep from *
Rnd 7: *k1, k2tog; rep from * - 16 sts
Rnd 8: k
Rnd 9: k2tog around - 8 sts

Finishing
Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Thread through tapestry needle and thread through each rem st on needle as if to purl, taking sts off needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat. Weave in ends on WS.

Fold up brim to desired length.
