Child's Crew Neck Pullover Knitting Pattern

This crew neck pullover sweater pattern with set in sleeves can be knit in a basic stockinette. Or add stripes to the ribbing as shown. You can also use a pattern stitch that will work to the same multiple as the pattern.

Size:
2 (4, 6) years
Finished Chest Measurement:
22 (24, 26) inches
Gauge:
4.5 sts and 6 rows = 1 inch
Materials:
Approximately 270 (310, 360) yards worsted weight yarn
Use needles appropriate to yarn and to meet gauge; for ribbing use needles one or two sizes smaller.

Instructions:

Back:
CO 52 (56, 60) sts on smaller needles. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1½ (2, 2) "
Change to larger needles. Work even until piece measures 5½ (6, 7)", excluding ribbing.
Armhole:
BO 2 (3, 3) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end every other row 0 (1, 1) times - 48 (48, 52) sts. Work even until armhole measures 3 (3, 3½)".
Shape Neck:
Work both sides at the same time. Work 17 (17, 19) sts. Slip the next 14 sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 17 (17, 19) sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times - 12 (12, 14) sts.
Work even until armhole measures 5 (5, 5½)".
Shape Shoulders:
BO 6 (6, 7) sts beg next 4 rows.

Front:
Work same as Back.

Sleeves:
CO 30 (32, 34) sts on smaller needles. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 inch.
Inc 1 st each end every 8th (8th, 10th) row 5 (5, 5) times - 40 (42, 44) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 7½ (8, 10½)", excluding ribbing.
Shape Cap:
BO 2 (3, 3) sts at beg of next two rows.
Dec 1 st each end every other row 14 (15, 16) times. BO rem sts.

Finishing:
Sew left shoulder seam.
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up 13 (13, 14) sts from right back neck edge, 14 sts from back neck holder, 13 (13, 14) sts from left back neck edge, 13 (13, 14) sts from left front neck edge, 14 sts from front neck holder, and 13 (13, 14) sts from right front neck edge - 80 (80, 84) sts.
Work 1 inch in K1, P1 ribbing.
BO loosely in ribbing.
Sew other shoulder.
Sew side and sleeve seams.
Weave in ends.
