Child's Turtleneck Pullover Knitting Pattern

Knit Sweater

Quick and easy to knit turtleneck sweater for children on large needles.

Sizes:
Finished Chest Measurement: 27 (29, 31½)"
Approx ages 6 (8, 10)

Gauge:
12 sts and 16 rows=4" in k4, p4 rib

Materials:
Size 11 US (8 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Musique by Crystal Palace Yarns
45% acrylic/40% wool/15% cotton
100 grams/130 yards
3 (4, 4) balls Color #9132-Faded Jeans

Instructions:

K4, P4 rib:
Multiple of 8 + 2 sts
Row 1 (RS): p3, *k4, p4; rep from *, end k4, p3
Row 2 (WS): k3, *p4, k4; rep from *, end p4 ,k3

P2, K2 ribbing:
Row 1: *p2, k2; rep from *, end p2
Row 2: *k2, p2; rep from *, end k2

Back
CO 42 (50, 50) sts. Work in p2 k2 ribbing for 1½".
Change to K4, P4 rib.
Work until piece measures 8½ (10, 10½)"
Shape Armholes
BO 2 sts beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end every other row 1 (4, 3) times - 36 (38, 40) sts.
Work even until armhole measures 4 (4½, 4½)"
Shape Neck
Work 13 (14, 15) sts. Slip the next 10 sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 13 (14, 15) sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 (6, 6) times - 8 (8, 9) sts.
Work even until armhole measures 6 (6½, 7)"
Shape Shoulders
BO 2 (2, 3) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then BO 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows.

Front
Work same as Back until armhole measures 2½ (2½, 3)"
Shape Neck
Work 15 (16, 16) sts. Slip the next 6 (6,8) sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 15 (16, 16) sts.
Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 (4, 3) times, then dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 times - 8 (8, 9)
Work even until armhole measures 6 (6½, 7)",
Shape Shoulders
Work same as Back.

Sleeves
CO 26 sts. Work in p2 k2 ribbing for 1½"
Change to K4, P4 rib.
Keeping to pat, inc 1 st at each end every 9th (8th, 8th) row 1 (2, 5) times, then every 10th (9th, 0th) row 2 (2, 0) times - 32 (34, 36) sts.
Work even until sleeve measures 9½ (10½, 12)"
BO 2 sts at beg of next two rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every RS row 9 (8, 9) times, then dec 1 st at each end every row 0 (1, 1) times. BO rem 8 (10, 10) sts loosely.

Turtleneck
Seam right shoulder
With RS facing, pick up 9 (10, 10) sts along left back neck edge, 10 sts from back neck holder, 9 (10, 10) sts along right back neck edge, 14 (16, 16) sts along right front neck edge, 6 (6, 8) sts along front neck holder, and 14 (16, 16) sts along left front neck edge - 62 (68, 70) sts
Work in p2 k2 ribbing until 8 (9, 9)". BO loosely.

Finishing:
Seam left shoulder. Sew in sleeves. Seam sides and sleeves. Seam turtleneck, taking care to seam so seam will be on WS when folded over.
Weave in ends on WS.
