Knitting Pattern For Cropped Cardigan Vest

Knit Vest

Weave in a contrasting color yarn after knitting this easy cropped vest which gives it a plaid look. You can skip this portion if you wish and just knit it in stockinette with the seed stitch border.

Gauge:
16 sts and 20 rows=4" in St st

Materials:
Meringue by Crystal Palace Yarns
4 (4, 4, 5) balls - 9809 Fall Herbs (Color A)
1 ball (all sizes) - 063 Warm Brown (Color B)
Size 10 ½ (6.5 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 10 ½ (6.5 mm) 35" circular needles
Tapestry needle

Sizes:
S (M, L, XL)
Equivalent Finished Chest Measurements:
37 (41, 45, 49) inches

Instructions:

Pattern Stitches

Seed Stitch
Row 1: *k1, p1; rep from *
Rep Row 1.

Back Pattern Stitch
Row 1 and all odd rows (WS): P
Row 2: *k1, p1; rep from *, end k1
Rows 4, 8 & 12: K
Rows 6 & 10: k1, p1, *k7, p1; rep from *, end k1

Front Pattern Stitch
Row 1 and all odd rows (WS): P
Row 2: k2, *p1, k1; rep from *, end k1
Rows 4, 8 & 12: K
Rows 6 & 10: k8, *p1, k7; rep from *, end k1

Back
CO 75 (83, 91, 99) sts with Color A.
Work Seed Stitch 1".
Work Back Pattern Stitch 3½ (3½, 4, 4½)" (piece will measure 4½ [4 ½, 5, 5 ½]" from beg).
BO 6 sts beg next 2 rows - 63 (71, 79, 87) sts
Keeping to pat, dec 1 st each end every other row 4 (5, 6, 7) times - 55 (61, 67, 73) sts
Work until armhole measures 9½ (9½, 10, 10½)" (piece will measure 14 (14, 15, 16)" from beg).
BO 14 (16, 18, 20) sts beg next 2 rows.
Place rem 27 (29, 31, 33) sts on holder for back of neck.

Right Front
CO 27 (33, 35, 41) sts with Color A.
Work Seed Stitch 1".
Sizes M and XL only:
Work Front Pattern Stitch until measures same as Back.
Sizes S and L only:
Work Back Pattern Stitch until measures same as Back.
All sizes: WS: At armhole, BO 6 sts - 21 (27, 29, 35) sts
At armhole, dec 1 st every other row 4 (5, 6, 7) times.
At same time, at neck edge, dec 1 st next and then every 20th (8th, 10th, 6th) row 2 (5, 4, 7) times more.
Work until armhole measures same as Back.
BO 14 (16, 18, 20) sts.

Left Front
As for Right Front, reversing shaping.

Armhole Bands
Seam shoulders.

With RS facing, Color A and straight needles, pick up 89 sts around armhole.Please see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information. Work in Seed Stitch ½". BO in pat. Rep for other armhole.

Neck/Front Bands
With RS facing, Color A and circular needles, beginning at bottom Right edge, pick up 60 (60, 62, 64) sts, k 27 (29, 31, 33) sts from back of neck holder, pick up 60 (60, 62, 64) sts down Left edge. Please see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information.
Work in Seed Stitch 1". BO in pat.

Knit Vest
Finishing
Seam sides.

With Color B and tapestry needle, weave vertically through the p sts and horizontally through the k sts of Row 2.

Weave in ends on WS.
