Yarn Shop Reviews

Crazy Girl Yarn Shop
208 W. 2nd St.
Muscatine, IA 61350

This shop is wonderful and well worth my 2 hour drive to get there. Leslie and the girls are quite a delight and everyone that you meet there has a great deal of knowledge and experience. They even rent spinning wheels for the truly adventurous. I love that they have a huge table and plenty of seating and invite everyone to sit and knit for awhile. They offer a relaxing and amazing place to shop, learn, watch the river, or just sit and knit. With a recently added second shop in Coralville near Iowa City, they have covered all my Iowa travels. 6/07

This store has a WONDERFUL selection of local and imported yarns in every color imaginable. They also carry any knitting/crocheting supply you could ever want or need, as well as many pattern books and knitting/crocheting books. In addition, they carry a wide supply of cross-stitch, needlepoint and latch hook supplies. They do have a discount bin at times with some good deals.

The lady that owns the store is a very courteous and helpful person that will go out of her way to assist you with any question or problem you may have. If you have trouble with a knitting project, bring it in and she'll assist you. I have shopped there many times before I moved and have never had a bad experience there. I would highly recommend this store to any crafter.

Absolutely love this shop! I have been shopping there for over 20 years and have always had a good experience. They have a large and wonderful selection of yarns and will either order the yarn you need if they don't carry it for you or assist you in finding a substitute yarn that will also work. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist customers. It is located in a two story bright pink house in a great shopping area in West Des Moines, Valley Junction, with a lot of great craft, antique, clothing shops, restaurants and coffee shops. I moved two hours away from Des Moines a little over four years ago and greatly miss being able to visit Creative Corner and the entire Valley Junction area on a moments notice. Also, for anyone interested in cross stitch or needlepoint, they also carry a good selection of those materials. I highly recommend this shop and the entire shopping area!

Donna's has always been one of the most interesting and innovative shops in the area, thanks to the ability of the owner and her staff to evolve and change. I was surprised to recently discover their 'back room' is now overflowing with delicious yarns and yummy samples. Not only that but they offer classes. I signed up immediately and am so happy I took my first knitting class from June, a talented charmer from Australia. The classes are full (9 students) and fun. Cheerful assistance is always available from staff members. Discounts on yarn and knitting supplies are part of the class fee, as well as yarn and needles to begin The Project.

This shop opened Fall 2005 in the downtown shopping/mall area of Carroll. It's easy to find and free parking is available. The owner, Beth, is a very friendly lady offering a good initial selection of novelty and classic yarn, patterns, and supplies. Beth offers assistance with projects and classes for beginner and intermediate knitters. There is also an area to come in, sit down and knit for a while.
