Yarn Shop Reviews

Hank of Yarn
7075 Malco Blvd, #110
Southaven, MS 38671

This lovely shop opened in October of 2007. It's owned by Henrietta (Hank - thus the clever name!) and Mike Davis, who are retired folks from the Hernando, MS area. This is Hank's second career, having retired from 40 plus years in Nursing in 2005. The only yarn shops near the TN - MS border were a shop in Hernando that has since closed, and 3 shops in Memphis, TN, which required a bit of traveling for us northern Mississippi folks. I discovered this shop in November and was so pleased that someone had finally opened a proper yarn shop, that I could have done back flips. In fact, the first day I walked into the shop, I thanked Ms. Hank for opening her shop. Since then, I have become a regular patron. They offer many classes on whatever technique you want to learn, and even have open knitting on Thursdays from 6-9 pm. It's so much fun, and has become so popular with the Hernando and northern Mississippi knitting crowd that Hank had to go buy another set of table and chairs to accommodate everybody. There's even a Starbucks across the street, and a Baskins-Robbins next door! What more could a knitter want! She has a large selection of yarns ranging from Plymouth Yarns to Mission Falls, even the green fibers made from soy, corn, bamboo and milk. Her shop is staffed by the nicest, most helpful people, Kathy and Charlotte, and they are always available to help undo any knitting problem or offer advice on your next project. Crochet classes are also available. Hours are Monday - Friday 10-6, Thursday 6-9, Saturday 10-4. 5/08

This is one of the most amazing shops I have ever visited. It is huge, the inventory is expansive, carefully selected, and there is something to please any knitter. The owner is friendly, unbelievably helpful, and knowledgeable. Yarns are displayed in beautiful dark cabinets against warm Tuscan gold walls. The entire experience of being there is one of delightful discovery and inspiration. I drive 2 hours to this shop and it's worth every minute. Call for hours. The shop is open on Thurs, Fri, and Sat. only. 9/07
