This is by fat the greatest yarn shop I've ever been in. It has a huge selection of yarn, needles, and patterns, a comfy spot to hang out and read pattern books, an upstairs where they hold classes and knit groups, and very helpful and friendly staff who are always ready to give advice, match colors, or just make suggestions. This store is simply heaven to a knitter or a crocheter.

The little shop had been in existence for around 30 years. It has everything a knitter could possible need, including sage advice from Vivian the owner. She even offers Two Days in a Yarn Shop weekends. Book into the lodge on a Friday evening, pick your project, and enjoy the company of other knitters until checkout on Sunday. Vivian lays on lovely New England breakfasts on Saturday & Sunday mornings, and you can dine at one of Gorham Village's restaurants in the evening.

The first time I visited this shop, I was so thrilled with the selection of yarns and patterns (and more!) that I never even noticed the magnificent view of the White Mountains out the big picture window in the back! Recently I taught my husband to knit - now he is just as eager to visit Grand View as I am. 1/07

The lady who owns the shop is Pat Sweeney and she is so helpful. In addition to having all the standard wools, lends, etc. this shop has an amazing stock of sock yarn-Regia, Fortissima, and Socka, as well as loads of cotton yarn. She also carries a lot of Noro yarn. There is a small bargain bin that changes weekly. Just an aside, I don't know of any other yarn shop that will help you with a pattern and yarn that was purchased elsewhere but she does!

One thing I really like about Knitworking is the friendliness. Big Hello and let me know if I can help you when you come in and then you're left on your own to check it out. Pat's got a table in the front of the shop that ALWAYS has knitters around it, just knitting and hanging out.

The shop is located at the intersection of Routes 1 and 88/84 in Hampton Falls. It's in a very small shopping area, the main store here is Harbor Lights.

The young woman who owns this shop is extremely helpful and very friendly. She has a wonderful selection of yarns, as well as tools you might need, such as knitting needles of all types and sizes. And, her prices are very good and/or reasonable. Though I often order my sock yarns and such online, due to my busy schedule, I will make the short trip to the store whenever the item I want is something she carries. Thanks to this relatively new shop, I have been able to experience the colors and feel of yarns first hand. I even learned my favorite brand of sock yarn because of her selection, and now I'm a sock knitting fiend!

In addition, I know that the Spinning Yarns owner gives many knitting classes, which are usually booked up in advance. I'm sure it would be a great way to meet other knitters in the Dover, NH area. Oh, and Spinning Yarns has Sunday hours for those who have busy schedules, like myself.

Rosemary, the owner of this shop is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. She has been knitting since she was 7 and her selection of displayed models shows it. She has a terrific selection of hand dyed yarns and hard to find tools for knitting. The merchandise is reasonably priced. She also has a list of classes from the beginner to the most advanced. She offers children's knitting classes during the summer months. This newly established shop is a great find.

I called here looking for knitting classes and they had that and so much more. They offer classes in knitting, crochet, yarn dying and so much more. I take a class there on Wednesday nights and look forward to it each week. They often run a Friday Night knitting club.

The types of yarn that they carry are amazing and the choices is staggering. They do a great deal of online business as well. There is also a large selection of pattern books and magazines as well as needles, hooks, pretty much everything you could imagine needing.

The staff is are all seasoned knitters and friendly. I will often just grab a coffee and go in for some help on a project. More often than not I have to force myself to leave hours later. 1/08

This is a small shop tucked away on one of the side streets off of Market Street in downtown Portsmouth. (It's right next to the parking garage - a plus!) There is not much room to move around once you're inside, but the owner manages to pack an amazing amount of quality yarns into the available space. I didn't see a huge amount of patterns or needles, but there was an adequate display that should meet everyday knitting needs. I got great service when I was there - I was left alone to browse at will, but friendly help was immediately ready when I had a question.

The prices are certainly reasonable. Even better, the owner has a discount card program - when you spend $200, you receive $20 worth of free merchandise. I noticed that she also holds special seasonal sales, i.e., Super Bowl Sunday sale.

I would highly recommend visiting the shop - and then you can go traipsing around the quaint little city with your new goodies!

This shop moved (June of 2010) to a larger space on Deer Street (one block from the parking garage). The store is well stocked with yarn for all projects. Wonderful selection of sock yarn. Great selection of needles, patterns, books, buttons and many other knitting notions. Prices are reasonable and clerks are always friendly and ready to help. Many classes are offered including my favourite, Doctor is In. Also holds special sales i.e. Super Bowl Sunday, anniversary and always has a basket of discounted yarns. First Friday of every month is Knit Night. No cost, great knitting and great conversation. I would highly recommend visiting this shop when you are in Portsmouth. Also many restaurants and coffee shops nearby to get something to eat. 2/11
